I have decided to offer a Repair and Restoration (or Refurbishment) service to owners of the following Racal receivers. These being, all variants of the RA17 and RA117. What I propose is a service whereby the receiver in question will be restored electrically to ex-works condition. That is, with an operational specification as close to or better than when it originally left the factory. This will incur the replacement of ALL carbon resistors and ALL tubular electrolytic capacitors throughout. Various official performance and safety related modifications will be carried out in line with the appropriate EMER. This will invariably involve dismantling the receiver and as part of the service, the metal-work will be thoroughly cleaned. The receiver’s modular construction actually makes this process quite easy.
I would envisage that a straight-forward refurbishment could be turned around within 28 working days. There will be a flat-rate charge (to be decided) for the service provided which will be dependent on the receiver model. If it is found necessary to replace components other than the above mentioned Rs & Cs, like valves, switches, panel meters etc., then the cost of replacing these extra parts will be added to the flat-rate charge.
Given that these lovely receivers are heavy . . . 67lb minimum! It is felt that owners will want to deliver and collect them in person. I am more than happy with this arrangement, although I will look into the possibility of using a courier.
I am still working on the finer details so please check back for more information as it becomes available. If you have any questions regarding this service please do not hesitate to contact me.
